Did you know that blue is considered ‘the world’s favourite colour’? That’s because it is versatile and timeless, and can suit almost every décor style, from classic Hamptons to contemporary. At present, blue is a major trend colour for the home with plenty of accessories available in hues of navy, cobalt, lapis lazuli, aqua, turquoise and teal.
Modern
If you think navy is too ‘staid and old-fashioned’ for your home, there are some great ways to update the look to suit a contemporary style:
Introduce metallics such as chrome, bronze and copper
Combine coordinating shades of blue to add depth
Choose turquoise or aqua instead of darker shades
Include funky geometric patterns
Chartreuse, lime & fuchsia are great to add ‘pops’ of interest
Classic
If you prefer to keep your home elegant and a little more classic:
Use shades of cornflower, powder blue, royal blue and navy
Add to a white or cream scheme
Include patterns such as Willow Pattern, Toile or Ikat
Transitional/ Modern Classic
If you like a crossover from classic to contemporary, then a modern classic or transitional design scheme is for you. Here’s an example of how to use blue:
The pattern on this scatter cushion is classic, though the colours have made it look more contemporary through the addition of aqua to the royal blue and white scheme.
